The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) and the Self-Employed (USW) Local Union 1-1937 have ratified a new collective agreement. Negotiations on changes to the agreement began last January. In November, an ombudsman was appointed to support the discussions. On 11 December, a provisional agreement was reached with ratification by both parties on 21 December. The collective agreement will be reviewed and available when it is www.comoxvalleyrd.ca/collectiveagreements “We are pleased to continue with this agreement to continue service in our recreational facilities,” Julie Bradley, Executive Director of the CVRD Human Resources, said in a press release. The new four-year agreement will allow USW employees to adjust the labor market in the second year to bring their rates of pay closer to similar positions at other regional recreation centers. The third and fourth years of the agreement have a 2 percent pay rise each year. Negotiations with USW Local 1-1937 began last January The union represents 81 employees of the Comox Valley Sports Centre and Aquatic Centre recreational facilities. Their salaries range from $15.75 to $26.87 per hour….
